There is a magnificent thing this year in Portland, OR, in August called the sock summit (
link). I really really want to go. How awesome would it be? I can't even imagine! Oh, how I want to go. I need to figure out if I'm brave enough to fly to Portland alone (DH literally LAUGHED at me when I told him I want to go and that the Yarn Harlot would be there). I wonder if I can get off of work, and if there will be any classes still open by the time I figure out if I can get off of work. Between my yarn coming in and the announcement of this Sock Summit, today has been magnificent!

Sounds like something you could really get into! I think you should go for it. Personally, I like flying alone better :)
I'd really like to go, but I'm not sure I can get the time off. Add in $270+ for round trip airfare, hotel, and the costs of the classes ($70-$14), and I'm not sure it'll happen. I'm working on DH to have him pay for it. Mentioning my birthday and sex for money haven't worked yet lol. There's still time.
You can totally do it! Why would you be afraid to fly by yourself? Just save a little money here and there, and voila, it'll be paid for! DO IT!!!! :)
Its not the flying that scares me-its the landing in a strange city and then getting lost that might be a problem lol. There are literally thousands of knitters trying to go to this conference, so I'm worried that by the time I can figure out if I can afford to go and get the time off that airfare will be through the roof and the hotels will all be gone. IDK. I've found a summer fiber festival here that might satisfy my urge to go somewhere with my knitting.
